Tigresses end World Cup campaign without a win
Bangladesh's women's team lost their final group fixture against Sri Lanka today to end their World Cup campaign with four straight losses.
Sri Lanka thumped the Tigresses by nine wickets at Melbourne today after Bangladesh had batted first to put up just 91 runs in 20 overs. Except Nigar Sultana's 45-ball 39 there were no other notable contributors to the score. Nigar was run out in the last ball of the innings.
In reply, Sri Lanka women's side reached the target comfortably with 27 deliveries to spare. Hasini Perera remained unbeaten on a 53-ball 39 while other opener Chamari Atapattu struck a 22-ball 30 before she was the only wicket to fall. Anushka Sanjeewani (16) and Hasini ensured that Sri Lanka clinched the target without further loss of wickets.
This is the third consecutive time that the women's side have returned from a World Cup empty handed without a single win.
