A man has been arrested on charge of raping a 12-year-old girl in Jashore's Keshabpur upazila, police said today.

Abu Sayed, 25, a resident of Sreefola village, was arrested from his house after a rape case was filed against him last night, our Benapole correspondent reports.

Sayed picked up the victim, a sixth-grade student, near her house while she was on way to her madrasa and raped her on Saturday, according to the case statement.

The girl's mother filed a complaint with Keshabpur Police Station after she disclosed the incident to her family yesterday afternoon.

Keshabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jasim Uddin said that a Jashore court sent Sayed to jail.

The victim was admitted to Jashore General Hospital last night.
