Srimangal church gutted in fire

A church at Srimangal upazila of Moulvibazar district was gutted in fire in the wee hours of today.

Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahjalal of the district told The Daily Star the fire at Fulchhora Church in Garo Polly area was originated due to an electrical malfunction around 2:00am.

Quoting locals our Moulvibazar correspondent reported that the loss in the fire is worth around Tk 3 lakh.

Bishop Bejoy D'Cruze, a top spiritual leader of Christians in the country, said: “Such a big fire from electric malfunction is unexpected.”

Officer-in-Charge Md Mahbubur Rahman of Srimangal Police Station said, “We are investigating the incident.”

No one was reported injured in the fire.
