Municipal polls: AL doubts BNP’s commitment
The ruling Awami League today expressed doubt about BNP's stay in the municipality election till the last moment and called upon the party not to boycott it.
Party General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam came up with this observation at a press conference this evening at party president's Dhanmondi office in Dhaka.
"We are still in doubt whether BNP will stay in the polls till the last moment. Khaleda Zia is heading towards this and she is making controversial statements over the municipality polls," he said and urged the party not to boycott the polls.
BNP boycotted polls at the last moment in the past, the AL spokesman said referring BNP's boycotting the elections to Narayanganj, Dhaka North and South and Chittagong city corporations.
"Election is mandatory for democracy and none will gain by making this election controversial," Ashraf said.
He, however, said the election would be held in free, fair and neutral manner.
