Five suspected rapists were arrested in connection with a case filed for raping a nineteen-year-old girl at a residential hotel in Patuakhali's Galachipa upazila last night.

The arrestees are Shahidul (25), Swapan (40), Jiten (35), Khakan (45), and Rashid Gazi (32), our local correspondent reports quoting Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Galachipa Police Station.

The girl from Ghazalia area came to the upazila headquarter for treatment on Wednesday afternoon, the OC said quoting the case statement.

After her treatment, she went to Galachipa ferry ghat intending to go to her sister's house nearby as it was already evening and she did not want to return home late.  

At one point, Shahidul took the girl to a residential hotel saying she could pass the night safely there, according to the case statement.

Later, Shahidul along with Swapan, Jiten, Khakan and Rashid entered the room with the help of hotel manager Farroque around 8:30pm and raped the girl one after another, the police official said.

On information, police went to the hotel and arrested the five but the hotel manager somehow managed to flee the spot, the OC said.

The five arrestees were produced before a Patuakhali court this noon. The court sent them to jail. The victim was sent to Patuakhali General Hospital for medical tests.
