All intercity trains will resume operation gradually between Aug 16 and 30
Bangladesh Railway has decided to resume operation of all intercity trains gradually between August 16 and 30.
The authority took the decision today, more than two months after the resumption of rail operations on limited scale from May 31.
"In total 34 intercity trains (up and down) are now in operation. We will resume operation of all 100 intercity trains gradually, between August 16 and 30," Bangladesh Railway's Director General Md Shamsuzzaman told The Daily Star.
However, the health safety guidelines will remain the same, meaning BR will carry only 50 percent passengers of its capacity and will sell all tickets online, a rail ministry official said.
Decision regarding other trains would be taken later, he said, wishing not to be named.
Bangladesh Railway resumed operations on limited scale from May 31 after more than two months of suspension of rail service from March 24 to contain spread of coronavirus in the country.
