Arms case: 4 more witnesses testify against Regent Group chairman Shahed
Four more prosecution witnesses today gave their statements before a Dhaka tribunal in connection with an arms case against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed.
The witnesses are: Md Badruzzaman Zillu, an additional deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, assistant sub-inspectors Robiul Islam and Kabir Raihan, and constable Chand Miah.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Special Tribunal-1 of Dhaka recorded their statements. Later, the witnesses were cross-examined by defence lawyers on behalf of the accused.
The tribunal has fixed tomorrow for the next hearing on the case.
Earlier in the day, defence for Shahed completed cross-examination of SM Gaffarul Alam, an inspector of DB and also complainant of the case.
In his statement, Zillu said on July 19 a team of DB, led by him, found Shahed's private car in front of a house in Sector-11, in the city's Uttara Paschim area.
They seized a foreign-made pistol with a round of bullet from the car. They also seized 10 bottles of phensidyl from the car as per Shahed's information.
Later, Gaffarul made a seizure list of the evidence in front of the witnesses.
Gaffarul filed an arms case against Shahed with Uttara Paschim Police Station under the Arms Act, the witness continued.
In their statements, Robiul, Kabir and Chand gave similar statements before the same tribunal.
Shahed was arrested on July 15 from Satkhira when he was trying to leave the country on a boat.
He was later remanded in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 test results and charging patients for testing and treatment.
