The prosecution today concluded arguments and sought capital punishment for all five accused in blogger Oyasiqur Rahman Babu murder case filed in 2015.

During the hearing today, Dhaka Metropolitan Assistant Public Prosecutor Md Salahuddin Howlader told the court that they have been able to prove the charges brought against all the accused in the case.

On completion of prosecution's arguments, defence for two accused -- Zikrullah alias Hasan and Ariful Islam alias Mushfiq -- started placing arguments.

As they could not complete arguments, Judge Md Rabiul Alam of Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court in Dhaka set September 24 for next hearing of the case.

Earlier, the court recorded statements of 23 prosecution witnesses.

Oyasiqur (27) was attacked by three cleaver-wielding youths in the capital's Tejgaon industrial area on March 30, 2015.

On September 1, 2015, Mashiur Rahman, an inspector of Detective Branch of police and also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against five members of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).

A Dhaka court on July 20, 2016 framed charges against the five ABT members. Of the accused, Zikrullah, Mushfiq and Md Saiful Islam are now in jail while two others -- Akram Hossain Hasib alias Abdullah and Junayed alias Taher -- are on the run.
