A woman wails as fire ravages her only source of income -- a makeshift factory producing aluminum bars --- in the capital’s Demra area. In a drive yesterday, the Department of Environment knocked down six such illegal factories, which were harming the area’s environment by releasing toxic chemicals into the air. At one point of the drive, a fire, believed to be originated from a stove, spread through this factory. Some of its workers managed to douse the flames quickly.
