A carpenter in Melandah upazila of Jamalpur have showed his intimate love for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, making a chair setting the portrait of the Father of the Nation.

"Marking the birth centenary of the father of the nation, I started making the chair four years ago when I used to work at a furniture workshop but four months ago, I sifted it to my house as I left the job and completed it on January 25 this year", said the 37-year-old furniture maker, Mominul Islam.

"Since my boyhood, I am devoted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and had a dream to do something for the great leader according to my ability and finally I finished my dream", said Mominul, a father of two children of Uttar Adipoith area in Melandah municipality.

Mominul said he designed the seven-feet chair himself curving two boats, the party symbol of Bangabandhu's Awami League, water lily and setting miniature national flags and portrait of the great leader at the top of the chair.

"The chair made of acacia wood costed Tk 30,000 except my labour and I managed it from my daily savings. I faced financial crisis amid coronavirus pandemic but did not stop my work", said Mominul who studied up to ClassV.

"Now it is my desire to handover the chair to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and I seek support from administration and party leaders in this regard", said Mominul

"My dream will come true if the chair could be handed over to the prime minister," he added.

Mominul's son Ripon Islam, an intermediate first year student, said they are happy as his father did a creative job marking the centenary birth celebration of Bangabandhu and 50-year of country's independence.

Mohammad Jony, a neighbour, said Mominul's four-member family is totally depended on his limited income and he has only the homestead but his devotion for Bangabandhu is praiseworthy and they are proud of him.
