CID arrests unauthorised overseas recruiters from Dhaka’s Motijheel
Criminal Investigation Department yesterday arrested two, including proprietor of an unauthorised recruiting agency, from Dhaka's Motijheel area on charge of swindling overseas job seekers.
The arrestees are: Mohammad Ali Ashraf, 42, the proprietor of AS Tours and Travels, and Ekhlash Uddin, 28, an office assistant.
The CID officials so far came to know that the fraudsters swindled Tk 47 lakh from at least 20 overseas job seekers, Khalidul Haq Hawlader, special superintendent of CID's Dhaka Metro North unit, told The Daily Star.
"This recruiting agency has no valid license. They set up offices in different areas and collect money from people, promising to send them to Canada, Qatar and some other countries," he said.
They show their clients fake visas and illegally charge Tk 3 to 5 lakhs or more from each. After a couple of months, they close their office and vanish, the CID official said, adding they set up office again in another place with a new name.
