Clash at Press Club: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal protests demanding release of activists
Members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal today brought out a procession on the Dhaka University campus demanding release of its activists who were arrested yesterday after a clash with police in front of Jatiya Press Club yesterday.
The procession started from TSC and ended in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture on DU campus this afternoon.
During a short rally in front of the memorial they also protested against the attack by police inside the Press Club.
"Police even arrested students from DU campus but the university authority did not do anything which we strongly condemn," said Amanullah Aman, member secretary of JCD (DU unit).
Top-level members of JCD (DU) were present at the time.
At least 40 people, including cops, were injured in a series of clashes between the activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and police in front of the National Press Club after police foiled a protest rally yesterday morning.
Chhatra Dal, the student wing of BNP, was to hold the rally in front of the Press Club at 10:30am to protest the authorities' decision to revoke the gallantry award of late president Ziaur Rahman, and to demand the repeal of the Digital Security Act and an investigation into the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in custody.
