Jeep gears up toward EV revolution
Despite being the stereotypical icon of gas-guzzling off-roaders, Jeep has slowly begun to move away from the dino juice. They rolled out a plug-in hybrid version of their Wrangler last year and now followed it up with a fully electric concept car with an amazing twist.
The Jeep Magneto concept is an off-road–capable EV with two-inch ground clearance, 35-inch off-road tires, 30-inch fording abilities and a six-speed manual transmission. Yes, it's an EV with an actual gearbox, which is mated to a 6,000-rpm custom-built axial flux electric motor making 285 HP and 273 lb-ft-feet of torque, with a 0-100 if 6.8 seconds.
To say this is exciting will be a colossal understatement. We just hope Jeep put this into production as soon as possible.
