Sunamganj Jubo League leader detained over Facebook post on Mamunul
Police detained a local Jubo League leader from Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj for allegedly making an "objectionable" post on Facebook about Hefajat Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque.
The arrestee, Emad Ahmed Joy (38), is the secretary of Liberation War affairs of Badaghat Union's Jubo League unit and president of an association of freedom fighters' offspring in the upazila, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
He was detained last night and sent to court this morning, said Abdul Latif Tarafdar, officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station.
Emad was held based on allegations of cognizable offence, the OC said adding that he was taken under police custody to avoid any untoward situation in the area.
However, the OC did not comment on any social media post by Emad.
"We have detained him mainly to avoid any untoward situation, but there has been no formal complaint or case filed against Emad," OC Abdul Latif said.
According to local sources, Emad had put up a post regarding Mamunul Haque on Saturday night which angered the supporters of Hefajat-e-Islam in the area, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
