Posts on Mamunul: Jubo League leader held

A Sunamganj court yesterday granted bail to a local Jubo League leader from Tahirpur, hours after he was detained for allegedly writing about Hefajat leader Mamunul Haque on Facebook.
Meanwhile in Kushtia, an assistant sub inspector of police was suspended for defending Mamunul on Facebook.
Emad Ahmed Joy, 38, the Liberation War affairs secretary of Tahirpur Upazila Jubo League, was detained on Sunday night. He was released after he got bail.
Contacted, Abdul Latif Tarafdar, officer-in-charge at Tahirpur Police Station, said, "Police detained him to avoid clashes and undesired situation in the area. He committed a cognisable offence."
Locals said Emad made a "derogatory Facebook post" about Hefajat leader Mamunul after the latter and a woman were detained by locals at a resort in Narayanganj.
M Salman Ahmed, local leader of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, said, "Islamic leaders in the area and Hefajat supporters were furious about Emad's post, and we informed police about the situation. They detained Emad to avoid unwanted incidents."
OC Latif said no one filed any written complaint with the station against Emad.
In Kushtia, ASI Golam Rabbani, who worked at an in-service training centre, was suspended allegedly for a Facebook live video where he defended Mamunul Haque.
"He was suspended as per the instructions from higher authority, and we ordered that a probe body be formed and asked to submit its report in two or three days," said Superintendent of Police Khairul Alam.
