SC’s Appellate, HC Division functions suspended today honouring Abdul Matin Khasru
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has suspended all functions of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court for today (Thursday), showing respect to Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and Awami League lawmaker Abdul Matin Khasru.
Khasru, who was elected lawmaker for five times, passed away at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at 4:45pm yesterday at the age of 71.
While presiding over a full bench of the Appellate Division for hearing and disposing of cases this morning, the chief justice said all proceedings of the Appellate and High Court Divisions will be suspended for the day to pay tribute to Abdul Matin Khasru.
"Being the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association is an honour. Sher-E-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque was the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association. We (judges of the SC) have decided that we will not sit (in the bench for dealing with cases) for today," the chief justice said.
Earlier in the day, Attorney General and outgoing president of the SCBA AM Amin Uddin requested the chief justice to suspend the judicial functions of the Appellate and HC Divisions for the day to pay respect to Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru.
Meanwhile, the body of Abdul Matin Khasru was taken to the SCBA premises so that his fellows can pay respect to him where a namaz-e-janaza was held.
He will be buried at his family graveyard at Mirpur village in Brahmanpara of Cumilla.
