CJ to decide whether to keep court proceedings functional amid restriction: law minister
Law Minister Anisul Huq today said Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain will take the decision on whether to keep court proceedings functional across the country during the present coronavirus situation.
"I hope the chief justice will take the right decision about operating the courts of the country as Covid-19 infection rate is rising," the law minister said.
He said this while replying to a query from reporters after attending the namaz-e-janaza of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and Awami League lawmaker Abdul Matin Khasru at SCBA office premises this morning.
On April 13, the registrar's office of the Supreme Court issued notifications saying that the regular functions of all courts, including the High Court and the Supreme Court, will remain suspended for a week from April 14 in line with the government-imposed restrictions.
However, the courts can carry out judicial proceedings virtually during the period on a limited scale, according to the notification issued under the directive from the chief justice.
