Steps taken to improve gas supply: PM
Amid countrywide severe gas crisis, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today in parliament said her government has taken various steps to improve the gas supply.
About the gas crisis in the winter season, she said: "Yes, I admit there’re some problems but we aren’t sitting idle, we’re trying hard to mitigate the crisis."
Hasina was responding to a supplementary question from Jatiya Party MP Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu during the PM's question answer session in Parliament.
During winter, PM said, natural gas condenses, slowing down its flow. "That’s why you’ll see gas crisis during the winter.”
The Leader of the House said gas is a natural resource and there is its limitation. "We’re improving the gas production, but the demand for gas is increasing substantially in line with the growing development activities," she said.
Sheikh Hasina mentioned that the government has decided to import liquid natural gas (LNG) to face the gas crisis as its alternative.
The prime minister also mentioned that the LNG terminal is being constructed and after the construction it would be possible to import gas.
