Supreme Court Spokesman Md Saifur Rahman in a statement today said the subordinate courts have disposed a total of 2,944 bail petitions in connection with different criminal cases through virtual hearings and granted bail to 1,412 under trial prisoners yesterday.

With yesterday's bail orders, 22,873 people, including 289 accused children, secured bail from subordinate courts across the country in the last 13 working days, he said, adding that a total of 41,920 bail petitions of the accused were disposed during this period.

The regular activities of courts across the country including the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court remain suspended due to the ongoing rapid surge of Covid-19 outbreak and the government-imposed restrictions to contain it.

Earlier, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain issued some directives for the courts about dealing with urgent cases by using information and communication technology during the ongoing closure.
