FF's land, cremation ground of a family grabbed
Ancestral land of a freedom fighter and cremation ground of another family at Dhemsha Baruapara under Satkania upazila of Chittagong district have been illegally occupied by a local land grabber, alleged the two victims.
"One Rupon alias Kala Rupon illegally occupied 20 decimals of my ancestral land around eight months ago. He and his men beat me when I protested," said Monohor Barua, a freedom fighter.
"Then we went to the police station with a complaint but they did not take any action. Due to death threat by the land grabber, I and my family members are passing time amid worry," he said.
Modon Kumar Barua, a schoolteacher working at Bandarban, alleged that Rupon grabbed 15 decimals of land of their family funeral ground at Dhemsha Barua para in Satkania upazila of Chittagong.
"Most of our family members are government job holders and live in Bandarban and Chittagong town. Taking the opportunity, Rupon grabbed our family graveyard and threatened to file cases when we went there to protest.
"I cremated my father and uncle here 15 and 20 years ago," said an emotional Modon Kumar.
Contacted, Rupon said, "I have managed the police administration and the union parishad (UP) chairman. If you have any query you can contact with them."
Local UP chairman Ramzan Ali, however, claimed that he has no relation with the land grabber.
Neyamot Ali, investigation officer (IO) of Satkania Police Station, said, "I along with my team went to the spot on Monday and found the existence of a cremation ground there. I requested the alleged person to maintain sanctity of the place. I also asked both the parties to come to the police station with their documents."
Earlier, another IO Ratan Dey went to the spot and asked the alleged land grabber not to go the spot but the latter planted trees on there, said Swapan Kanti Barua, brother of Madon Kumar Barua.
Contacted, Farid Uddin Khandakar, officer-in-charge of Satkania Police Station, said police are investigating the matter after receiving complaints from the victims.
