Two Hefajat-e-Islam leaders were sent to jail today after they were produced before a Dhaka court in a case filed with Paltan Police Station.

They are Maulana Jubair Ahmed, Dhaka City unit vice-president of Hefajat's now dissolved committee, and Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed, its assistant general secretary.

Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yeasmin Ara passed the order after Sub-Inspector Md Enamul Haque of Paltan Police Station and also the investigator of the case, produced them before the court on completion of their three-day remand in the case.

In today's forwarding report, the IO said the two leaders while on remand gave important information and as such the IO appealed to the court to confine them in jail until the investigation is completed.

Also, the accused did not submit any petition seeking bail in the case.

After the hearing, the magistrate sent the duo to Dhaka Central in Keraniganj.

Jubair was arrested from Lalbagh on April 16 while Jalal was arrested from Mohammadpur on April 17.
