Justice Nazmun Ara appointed as DG of Judicial Administration Training Institute
Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, former judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, has been appointed as director-general (DG) of the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) for the next two years.
The government made the appointment under section 11(2) of the Judicial Administration Training Institute Act, 1995.
Md Golam Sarwar, secretary to the law and justice division of law ministry, issued a gazette notification to this effect yesterday (Wednesday).
According to the notification, Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana will receive the salary, allowance, and other facilities equivalent to those of a sitting judge of the Appellate Division during her time as director-general of JATI.
Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, who retired as a judge of the Appellate Division on July 7, 2017, was the first female judge of the lower court, the High Court Division, and the Appellate Division.
Justice Nazmun obtained BSc and LLB degrees and enrolled as an advocate in the Mymensingh District Court in July 1972.
She joined the Judicial Service as a Munsif (judge) on December 20, 1975, and was promoted to District and Sessions Judge on December 20, 1990, according to the official website of the apex court.
On May 28, 2000, she was elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court and was appointed as a regular judge on May 28, 2002. She was elevated as a judge of the Appellate Division on February 23, 2011.
