The Jatiya Sangsad this evening passed the 'Railway Nirapatta Bahini Bill, (Railway Security Force) 2016' keeping the provision of arresting any people without any magistrate's warrant if s/he is "reasonably" considered as a prospective harmful person for railways.

The bill was passed in voice votes amid opposition by a Jatiya Party MP for keeping the "controversial" provision of arresting people by the officials of the Railway Security Force.

The objection however was rejected in voice votes by the treasury bench deputies.

Railways Minister Mujibul Haque placed the bill in the House, with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, for passing the bill in an amended form from the Railway Nirapatta Bahini Ordinance, 1976.

The minister said the amended law was prepared to preserve the railways' assets, constitute a disciplined security force for the railways and maintain them properly.

"The railways security force will be regarded as a disciplined force in line with Section-152 of the Constitution," said the bill which was placed in the House on November 16, 2015.

Earlier, the cabinet endorsed the draft laws on Railway Nirapatta Bahini (RNB) on February 14, 2013.
