Another Ansar Al Islam member held in Chattogram: Police

Members of Counter Terrorism Division of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) said they detained another member of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam from the port city's Akbarshah area yesterday.

The arrestee is Md Shamimur Rahman alias Shafiq Hujur alias Shamim Hujur, 43. He resides in Akbarshah.

Shamim was held following information from arrested Shakhawat Hossain Lalu, Syria-returned "IT expert" of the outfit, during his remand, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Of CT Md Hasan Md Showkat Ali.

Shamim is a teacher in a local madrasa of Akbarshah's Firojshah colony and also the Khatib of a local mosque, said the DC.

Police sources said during the primary investigation he also admitted that he is also involved with the politics of Hefajat-e-islam in Akbarshah area.

On June 12, CT members held alleged militant Shakhawat Hossain Lalu from South Khulshi area and seized militant-related documents and electronic devices.
