Flashing guns at PWD office: two pro-AL contractors’ firearms license cancelled
Local administration has cancelled firearms license of two pro-Awami League contractors for brandishing those at Public Works Department's office in Pabna.
Based on an investigation report, the administration cancelled firearms licenses of AR Khan Mamun, organising secretary of Pabna municipality AL; and local Jubo League leader Sheikh Lalu, Pabna Deputy Commissioner Kabir Mahamud told the Daily Star.
Meanwhile, Pabna district unit AL has relieved Haji Faruk, science and technology affairs secretary of Pabna Sadar AL, and Mamun from their posts over the same allegations.
Secretary of Pabna district unit AL Golam Faruk Khandaker Prince also issued notices on Wednesday, asking the two to explain why they will not be expelled from the party, Advocate Abdul Ahad, office secretary of district AL, said citing the notices.
on June 6, a group of pro-AL contractors went to PWD office in Pabna carrying firearms. Six days later, security camera footage of the office was leaked to journalists.
In the footage, a group of contractors carrying firearms was seen arriving at the facility. Among them were Haji Faruk, AR Khan Mamun and Sheikh Lalu.
After publishing media reports, Mamun and Lalu surrendered their licensed firearms at Pabna Police Station on June 13.
Although PWD did not file any case, police investigated the incident and submitted a report.
The probe report was submitted to Pabna deputy commissioner office on June 15 with recommendation for canceling the licenses of the firearms.
