Dhaka-bound people gather in the thousands at Banglabazar-Shimulia
On the second day of movement restrictions, thousands of Dhaka-bound passengers were seen gathering at the Banglabazar-Shimulia ghat today.
Despite a ban on carrying passengers, many used ferries to cross the Padma River. There were no launches or speedboats though, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Adnan Hossain, a passenger in Shimulia ghat, said, "I came to Shimulia Ghat from Chashara in Narayanganj on a battery-run auto-rickshaw for personal work and there was no difficulty in entering the ghat."
Robin Hossain, a Dhaka-bound passenger said that he came to Shimulia ghat by ferry from Banglabazar ghat without any hassle, but he struggled to find transportation to Dhaka.
Manager of BIWTC's Shimulia Ghat, Prafulla Chauhan said, vehicles providing emergency services were supposed to use the ferry. Despite the ban, passengers could not be prevented from boarding the ferry. It is not possible to hold passengers in ghat.
