Cops foil bid to lay siege to Khaleda’s house
Police today foiled an attempt of freedom fighters' children to lay siege to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan residence protesting her remark regarding the number of Liberation War martyrs.
As per their scheduled programme, the children under the banner of Muktijoddha Sontan Command (a platform of the children of freedom fighters) gathered at Banani playground around 11:15am, said Rafiqul Islam, assistant commissioner of police (Gulshan Zone).
The law enforcers resisted them when they started marching towards Khaleda's residence, the police official told The Daily Star.
In face of resistance, the leaders and members of the organization staged an hour-long rally at the play ground and left the scene, he said.
Khaleda, on December 21 last year said, "There are controversies over how many were martyred in the Liberation War. There are also many books and documents on the controversy."
Her comments drew widespread flak and sparked protest among pro-liberation quarters.
