Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ unveils first look of Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II

Netflix's acclaimed series about the British royal family, "The Crown", will return with a fifth season. Production of the show is now underway, and the makers have unveiled the first look of Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II. The show's official Twitter account posted the picture and wrote, ''An early glimpse of our new Queen Elizabeth II, Imelda Staunton''.

The role was previously played by Olivia Colman, who portrayed the monarch for Seasons 3 and 4, while Claire Foy played the central role for the first two seasons. Staunton will play the role until the show's sixth and final season. She is widely recognised for her performance as Professor Dolores Umbridge in the "Harry Potter" movie franchise.

As per Variety, Season 5 will tackle the early 1990s, including Queen Elizabeth II's challenges in 1992, during which three of her four children separated from or divorced their partners — including Prince Charles and Diana — and the family was dogged by numerous scandals, such as the revelation of Charles's affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles. It will also include Princess Diana's famous BBC Panorama interview.

In addition to Staunton, the new season will see Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, and Dominic West as Prince Charles. Jonny Lee Miller will play John Major, who served as Britain's prime minister from 1990 to 1997.
