Special Biman flight to Hong Kong and back for university students on August 9
Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate a special flight on the Dhaka-Hong Kong-Dhaka route on August 9.
The national flag carrier arranged the chartered flight following requests by Bangladeshi students who gained admission and also those already studying in different Hong Kong universities, Md Salahuddin, Biman's general manager (marketing and sales), told The Daily Star.
"We have completed all necessary formalities and got permission from all respective authorities of Bangladesh and Hong Kong to operate the special flight," Salahuddin also said.
Around 90 passengers, mostly students, are scheduled to fly to Hong Kong on the flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:15pm on August 9, said the Biman official.
On the return flight to Dhaka, a total of 60 passengers -- most of them Bangladeshis -- who were stranded in Hong Kong will return to the country.
Intended passengers will be able to buy tickets from Biman's sales offices or through BIman's call centre from today.
Salahuddin said students of different universities in Hong Kong had requested Biman to operate a special flight to Hong Kong as regular flights on the Dhaka-Hong Kong-Dhaka route remain suspended amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
At present, Biman is only operating two cargo flights per week on the route.
