An artiste should focus on being a good person first: Ferdous

Ever since his debut, Ferdous has been popular in both sides of the border, winning four National Awards for his performances. The actor is now busy with various projects now, after a brief break from shooting. He talks to The Daily Star in a candid interview.

Our film industry is going through quite a crisis. What do you have to say about that?

We need to be united during these dire times, and listen to what our senior and more experienced artistes have to say. It is unfortunate that the number of cinema halls in our country is decreasing day by day. The number of films which are being produced is also in decline, and we really need to stand together and do something about it.

The Cholochitro Shilpi Samiti is one of the most influential film organisations in Bangladesh. Do they have the right to cancel the membership of an artiste even before they are proven guilty of something?

Absolutely not. The alleged party needs to be given the chance to prove themselves innocent. However, I will also say that artistes should focus on being good people, since they have the ability to influence the society. One mistake can have dire impact on people who see them as role models, so they should be more careful.

You have worked on many successful Indian films as well, over the years. Due to an unfortunate incident, your Visa was cancelled in the recent past. What is the update on that?

The Indian embassy had called me, and I went to speak to them about the issue. After that, the Covid-19 pandemic slowed the process down considerably. I admit that I had made a mistake, and I have repented for it. I am sure that an amicable solution will present itself.

When will you start shooting for a new film?

From tomorrow, actually (August 31). It is a film on the Liberation War, directed by Hridi Huq. The film, titled "1971 Sheishob Din", is a government granted one. I am also featuring in Afzal Hossain directorial "Maniker Laal Kakra". I play the role of a writer there. Another film that we will start shooting for is "Rasel er jonno Opekkha".
