6 Bangladeshis arrested in India with fake voter IDs
Six Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in West Bengal, India on Friday with fake voter identity cards, multi-purpose Aadhar cards and cards needed for filing income tax returns.
The arrestees -- all residents of Narayanganj -- had been staying in a rented flat at the Green Park residential complex in Bandel, a neighbourhood in Hooghly district of West Bengal, Indian police confirmed yesterday, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
They were placed on seven-day remand by a court in Chinsurah yesterday. Their identities are yet to be announced.
Police are probing if they have any links with any militant group.
The law enforcers are also investigating whether the apartment owner, who is identified as one Akash Das, a resident of Halishahar in North 24 Parganas district, has set up a racket for facilitating intruding Bangladeshis to Saudi Arabia for jobs.
