Bangladesh bundled out for a meagre 84
Bangladesh have carried their miserable run of form to their fourth and penultimate match of the Super 12 fixture against South Africa at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi today.
A top-order batting collapse -- from 22 for no loss to becoming 34 for five at the ninth over – resulted in the Tigers getting all out for a meagre total of 84 in 18.2 overs.
Bowling-allrounder Mahedi Hasan top-scored with 27 off 25 deliveries and was the only batter who managed to hit two or more boundaries as well being the only one to hit a maximum for the Tigers. Liton followed Mahedi with his 36-ball 24 while Shamim Hossain scored 11, the third-highest.
Except for Keshav Maharaj, all South Africa's bowlers scalped wickets with Kagiso Rabada, with his early in-roads, ended up being the pick of the bowlers for the Proteas with figures of 20 for three in his four overs. Anrich Nortje also scalped three for South Africa as he cleaned up the Tigers' tail.
Tigers in shambles as Liton departs
Bangladesh's lower-middle order got exposed early as left-arm wristspinner Tabraiz Shamsi, in his first over, dismissed Liton Das, who departed after scoring 24 off 36 deliveries in the middle of the twelfth over.
Liton, the highest scorer of the game so far, missed the flight of Shamsi's delivery and got stuck on the pads for a leg before wicket. A review was taken, however, it went in vain as the Tigers ended up losing both their reviews in the process.
Bangladesh are 46 for six at the end of 12 overs with Mahedi Hasan at the crease with Shamim as the Tigers look to give something for their bowlers to defend.
More misery for the Tigers as captain Riyad and Afif depart cheaply
Bangladesh are spiralling further into trouble with Mahmudullah Riyad having departed after scoring three of nine balls as the bouncer from Anrich Nortje brought the Tigers skipper's downfall.
Riyad's dismissal led to the arrival of Afif Hossain but the youngster matched Soumya's innings and went for a golden duck after getting bowled by Dwaine Pretorius at the beginning of the tenth over.
Bangladesh are wobbling at 40 for five at the end of the tenth over, with Shamim Hossain and Liton at the crease.
Rabada rattles Tigers during Powerplay
After a cautious start from the openers, South Africa's frontman Kagiso Rabada has removed Naim Sheikh and Soumya Sarkar in successive deliveries at the end of fourth over and dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim in the sixth over.
The Tigers have so far managed to hit only two boundaries so far after left-arm orthodox spinner Keshav Maharaj opened the bowling for South Africa. In the second over, a well-timed drive on the up from Liton Das off Kagiso Rabada and a misfield from the Proteas in the third over earned the Tigers those two boundaries.
Bangladesh scored 28 for three at the end of Powerplay with Liton and Mahmudullah Riyad at the crease.
