Renowned singer-musician James sued five top officials of Banglalink Digital Communications Limited for violating the copyright laws today.

The five are: Banglalink Digital Communications' CEO Erik Aas, chief compliance officer M Nurul Alam, chief digital officer Sanjay Vaghasia, chief corporate regulatory officer Taimur Rahman and head of VAS Anik Dhar.

James filed the case with the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka, Additional Public Prosecutor Tapash Kumar Pal told The Daily Star.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh took cognisance of the case and recorded the complainant's statements.

The court also asked the five accused to appear before it on November 30.

According to case documents, Banglalink is using many of the complainant's songs as caller tunes and welcome tunes, and in advertisements which is a violation of copyright laws.
