‘His performances on the silver screen will remain evergreen’

On this day 17 years ago, we lost renowned film actor Wasimul Bari Rajib to cancer. However, the four-time National Film Award winner remains a shining name of the film industry. Rajib made his silver screen debut in 1982 in the movie, “Khokon Shona”, with noted director Kazi Hayat.

"Rajib's pronunciation of words and strong voice distinguished him from others. I believe he is not given enough credit to this day. However, his performances on the silver screen will remain evergreen," shares Kazi Hayat.

Rajib was well-known for his role as the villain in the film "Danga", directed by Kazi Hayat. In fact, such popularity for villainous roles was hardly seen in the film industry after his demise. That being said, he showcased his versatility through lighter roles as well.

His performances in films like "Heeramoti", "Danga", "Bidroho Charidike", and "Shahoshi Manush Chai" earned him National Film Awards.

His other notable films include "Bhaat De", "Keyamot Theke Keyamot", "Antore Antore", and "Shopner Prithibi", among others.

Rajib was born on January 1, 1952 in Patuakhali in South-central Bangladesh. He also served as the Managing Director of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).
