3 AL men hurt in Rajshahi ‘Shibir’ attack

Two local Jubo league leaders and an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in an attack allegedly by members of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, in Rajshahi city this evening.

Mehedi Hasan Yamin, 35, president, Istiaque Ahmed Isa, 28, a member of ward no 30 unit of the Awami League youth wing, were injured in the attack by Shibir men that took place at Binodpur Bazar under Motihar Police Station in the city around 9:45pm, Iftekher Alam, assistant commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) told our Rajshahi correspondent.
Iftekher Hossain Saddam a member of BCL, student wing of AL, was also injured in the attack, the police official said.
Around 15-20 armed cadres of Shibir snooped on a group of ruling party men when they were having a chat in front of Komela Haque Degree College in the area, RMP police claimed quoting eye-witnesses and family members of the victims.
The attackers, first hurled crude bombs at them and later hacked them indiscriminately with sharp weapons after dragging them into a nearby dark ally, police said.
The three including Jubo League leader Yamin were rushed to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with the help of local people and law enforcers, the police official said.
Yamin received a bullet in his left leg and bears sharp weapon wounds on leg and left hand.
The other two were stabbed by sharp weapons.
Faces of some of the attackers were covered and others were known Shibir cadres of the area, said Yamin’s brother Nurul Amin, also an employee of Rajshahi University.
