VAT intelligence today conducted a drive at American Burger, a fast food shop at Dhanmondi in Dhaka.

A team of VAT Audit, Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (VAIID) carried the drive after receiving a complaint from a buyer.
The customer asked for a VAT invoice after paying the bill at the  American Burger. The fast food shop did not issue the invoice, VAIID said in the statement.
During the operation, the VAT intelligence found that the fast food shop had been running the business for a long time but it had not got 13-digit VAT registration, said the field office of the National Board of Revenue.

VAT Intelligence said the American Burger sold food items of Tk 18.35 lakh between  August 23 and November 30.

VAT is applicable on the sales amount but the fast food store has not paid the indirect tax, said.

American Burger could not be reached for comments.
