Healthy practices during winter
As the saying goes: prevention is better than cure. As winter approaches, we can all adopt some habits and precautions to stay healthy during the colder and shorter days.
Fresh winter vegetables are one of the perks of the season. Keeping vegetables like lettuce, spinach, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli etc. in your diet is a must for a healthy lifestyle. They are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants but low in calories.
Citrus fruits like orange are beneficial in this season. Vitamin C improves the immune system to fight the common cold. Herbs like ginger, garlic should also be included more in the diet as they help keep the body warm and prevent inflammation.
As winter tends to make us feel lazy, staying motivated and indulging in physical exercise also become necessary.
Getting some sunlight is very important to get the required dose of vitamin D. That's why yoga or stretching in the sunlight can be a good activity during this season.
We often drink less water in winter which can lead to dehydration. Having warm drinks like herbal and green tea to stay hydrated is a good practice.
Socialising or investing time in doing what you like is very important to avoid the winter blues. Although socialising can be tricky amid the Covid-19 situation, you can read a book or watch a movie from under the warmth of your blanket.
Planting some winter flowers and vegetables will also keep your mood upbeat during the season.
