NZ tour on agenda in BCB meeting today

Bangladesh's tour of New Zealand for a two-Test series, starting from January 1 next year, will be on the agenda in a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) meeting, currently ongoing at the BCB headquarters in Mirpur today.

However, originally, the meeting today at the BCB was mainly regarding the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), set to begin in mid-January next year.

"Even though the meeting is mainly regarding the upcoming BPL and its number of teams and rules, we will also be discussing Bangladesh's ongoing tour of New Zealand," informed BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan to The Daily Star today before the meeting.

The current New Zealand tour of Bangladesh has run into some turbulence after Bangladesh spin bowling coach Rangana Herath tested positive for Covid-19 in Christchurch. A few of the Bangladesh team members have also come in contact with a Covid-patient on their way to New Zealand from Bangladesh.

And such incidents have seen the country's Ministry of Health impose an extended three-day room quarantine on Bangladesh players and staff members.

The BCB meeting today will ponder on ways to go ahead and procedures to follow on this tour of New Zealand.

Bangladesh had undergone a mandatory seven-day managed isolation period at a quarantine facility in Christchurch since arriving in the country on December 10. And even though the Tigers were supposed to move to the team hotel and start outdoor practice from yesterday, they were left to stay put at the managed isolation center due to the extra three-day room quarantine that started yesterday.
