My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission: The biggest challenge yet
The third film from the popular My Hero Academia (MHA) franchise named My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission has hit the theatres in Bangladesh on December 10.
In terms of timeline, the movie takes place after season 5, episode 16 of the anime series. The main villain of the movie was even teased in the post-credit scenes of the 16th episode. Even though the film was teased in the main series, the series has no impact on the main plot and is designed to be a standalone movie.
World Heroes' Mission takes place in the city of Otheon and is about an anti-quirk terrorist group called the "Humarise". They plan to set off bombs worldwide that disperse a venomous gas and kill people with quirks, or according to Humarise, is "diseased".
The movie starts with multiple teams of heroes raiding the Humarise hideouts spread all over the world, to find the bombs and the villain Flect Turn. However, they fail to do so. After that, we are introduced to a brand new character named Rody Soul.
Soon, both Rody and the main character of the movie, Midoriya, find themselves being chased by the villains. Midoriya also gets accused of mass murder by the police as events unfold and both are forced to flee Otheon. At this point, Humarise makes an announcement about the bombs and the heroes are thrown into an emergency of finding the bombs within two hours or else the bombs will go off.
While the story is pretty straightforward, where the movie shines the most is in its visuals and action scenes. On top of that, I also liked the new character Rody Soul. Rody is a young energetic resident of the city of Otheon who lost both his parents early and works hard to take care of his younger brother and sister. He also has a very interesting Quirk.
This is also the first movie that focuses on Midoriya, Bakugo and Shoto altogether. We get to see a more mature version of them here as they are involved in quick decision making in tough situations. They also suffer gruesome injuries and face new villains that make them push their limits.
While the movie manages to deliver in terms of visuals and fan service, the disappointing aspect of the movie is that all the thrill and excitement it provides will amount to nothing in the grand scheme of things as it is a standalone movie.
World Heroes' Mission provides the fans with a great experience overall if you get over the fact that the consequences in the movie are meaningless. It is already MHA's most successful film in the worldwide box office and deservedly so.
