SUST students stage fresh demo demanding VC’s resignation
The students of Shahjalal University of Science of Technology (SUST) brought out a fresh procession today after 15 days demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed.
At the time they also held placards demanding the resignation and photographs of police action on the protesters on January 16, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
On January 13, residents of a female hall started a movement demanding the resignation of its provost.
Later on January 16 evening, the demonstration turned into an anti-VC movement and a clash occurred between police and the protesting students. At least 40 students were injured that evening.
On January 19, 23 students sat for a hunger strike demanding the same and broke their fasting on request of two former professors of the university -- Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and his wife Dr Yasmeen Haque.
The teachers assured them that the government's higher-ups informed them that the students' demands will be met within the shortest possible time. Since then 15 days have passed but no decision has been given yet.
