Education minister advises SUST VC to perform his duties
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today advised the Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology to perform his duties.
After a brief meeting with SUST VC Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed at his office, the minister said this to the VC, reports our Sylhet correspondent quoting SUST Registrar Ishfaqul Islam.
However, the minister declined to comment about the outcome of the meeting held with the VC this evening.
After emerging from the meeting, SUST Registrar Ishfaqul Islam told reporters that the minister called upon the teachers of the university to take steps to bring normalcy on the campus and advised VC Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed to perform his duties.
Prof Anwarul Islam, treasurer of the university who was at the meeting, said, the allegations raised by students against the VC are being investigated and Chancellor and President Abdul Hamid will take decision about him after the investigation.
The minister also instructed to resolve the ongoing crisis of the university, he said.
Quoting the minister, Prof Anwarul Islam said VC Prof Farid was asked to express regrets to the students for the recent incidents on the campus.
Earlier in the day, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni told journalists that the president will take decision about the removal of SUST VC after holding a meeting with the representatives of students who have been demonstrating on the campus demanding the resignation of the VC.
A three-member ministerial team, led by Education Minister Dipu Moni, arrived in Sylhet this morning to hold talks with the protesting students of SUST.
The SUST students resumed their protests Wednesday, after their demand for the removal of VC was not met.
