Biman to fly Dhaka-Toronto route starting March 26
Biman Bangladesh Airlines is planning to operate flights on Dhaka-Toronto route from March 26, Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal, managing director and CEO of the national flag carrier said today.
At a press conference at Biman's headquarter at city's Kurmitola, the Biman MD also said the national airliner is all set to resume its flights on Dhaka-Tokyo-Dhaka.
"We will operate flights to Narita International Airport in Japan once the country withdraws travel advisory on Covid-19 pandemic," said the Biman MD.
Biman suspended its Dhaka-Tokyo route in 2006, deeming it not commercially viable.
Now, given the increased business ties and tourist movement between the two countries, Biman has decided to resume it, Biman officials said.
The national airliner now has a fleet of 21 aircrafts, many of which are state-of-the-art aircrafts -- Boeing 787-8 and Boeing 787-9. Of the 21 planes, Biman owns 18 and the rest three were taken on lease.
About Biman's flight on Dhaka-Toronto, Dr Abu Saleh said they have already completed all necessary formalities to operate flights on this route.
Meanwhile, state minister for civil aviation M Mahbub Ali in the briefing said that if anyone in Biman Bangladesh Airlines was found involved in false booking of tickets, they would be fired from the job.
The press conference was organized on the occasion of re-launching Biman Bangladesh Airlines' passenger service solution and online ticketing.
The junior minister said, apart from dismissal from the job, legal action will be taken against if anyone is found involved in false booking of tickets, a common allegation of passengers of Biman.
Regarding the high airfare in different Middle Eastern routes, Mahbub Ali said the civil aviation ministry is working on this issue and will take all measures so that the migrant workers of Bangladesh can reach their destination in comfort.
