114 Bangladeshis return from Libya
As many as 114 Bangladeshis returned home yesterday in a chartered flight from Libya.
A Buraq Air flight carrying them landed at Dhaka airport around 8:30am.
Fakhrul Alam, assistant director of Expatriates' Welfare Desk at the airport, confirmed their arrival.
Wishing anonymity, an official of International Organisation for Migration Bangladesh said most returnees attempted to cross the Mediterranean to enter Europe illegally but failed. Later, they became undocumented in the North African country.
IOM provided necessary support to the returnees upon their arrival, he added. IOM also facilitated the repatriation process, according to a social media post of Bangladesh embassy in Tripoli.
The Bangladeshis left Libya's Mitiga International Airport near Tripoli on Wednesday. Libya, which faced two civil wars since 2011, has been known as a transit country for illegal migration to Europe.
