‘Records can change’: Tamim hopeful before SA ODIs

Just as Bangladesh had gone to New Zealand and surprised the cricket world with a Test win -- their first on Kiwi soil in any format -- the Tigers will be asked to assail a similar peak as they gear up for the upcoming ODI and Test series away to South Africa this month. ODI captain Tamim Iqbal was hoping of drawing inspiration from that win and hoping members of that Test side in Mount Mauganui will share their experience to give his team more mental resilience before what should be a tough tour.

"I was unfortunately not there with the team in New Zealand but those that were there, I would like it if they come and talk. Many of them are in the ODI squad. If they come and share things about there thought process and what they did to turn things around, I would like that.

"We will do everything to do well there. We will try but performance is not guaranteed," he reiterated, remaining cautious.

"We don't have a great record in South Africa but records can change," Tamim said knowing how the past away tours went. "A great example is our Test win in New Zealand. We turned things around there after many years. We couldn't win in 30-32 matches in New Zealand but the Test team changed that. I am hopeful this team will force the same change [in South Africa]. Belief makes a big difference," he reiterated.

South Africa have named a full-strength ODI side for the upcoming ODI series with ODI Super League points at stake. Tamim said it will be helpful in finding out any weaknesses early before the World Cup.

"I am very happy that they are playing the full side. I think it is the best possible thing for us," Tamim said. "We will play the best teams in the World Cup, so we must play against the best teams now. It will help identify our weaknesses. If we do well against them, it gives us a huge amount of confidence."
