South Africa level series with seven-wicket win

South Africa level the ODI series 1-1 with a comfortable seven-wicket victory at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg today after they restricted Bangladesh to 194 for 9.

Bangladesh just did not have enough runs on the board to trouble South Africa. It was always going to be difficult to post a big total after top-order collapse saw them slump to 34 for five inside 13 overs. Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada in particular caused havoc to the top-order batters with that extra bit of bounce going for them. Tamim Iqbal fell early to Lungi before Shakib Al Hasan fell to an identical dismissal to Rabada. Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali lived dangerously before perishing to Proteas pace attack as well. Mahmudullah Riyad contributed with a 60-run partnership for the sixth-wicket with Afif Hossain, who was looking in very good touch. After Mahmudullah fell to Shamsi's trap, caught at leg-slip, Afif and Mehedi Hasan Miraz strung together a 86-run stand off 112 deliveries. When it looked like Bangladesh might get over the 200-run mark, Rabada came and picked up Afif (72) and Miraz (38) in his last over as Bangladesh managed 194 for 9.

Quinton De Kock, who was not featured in the first ODI, came back in and smashed the balls to all corners of the park during a stormy fifty. The Tigers were not able to make the new ball talk as much as they would have liked in defending a 195-run target. De Kock smashed fifty in 26 deliveries before Shakib sent him back following a fantastic catch by Afif at deep mid-wicket. Bavuma (37) and Verreynne strung together a 82-run stand after the loss of the opening duo in quick succession. Verreynne remained unbeaten on 58 off 77 along with Rassie van der Dussen also unbeaten on 8 as South Africa sealed a comfortable victory.

Bavuma departs with SA close to win

Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma went after Afif Hossain but found Shorful Islam at deep square-leg. Did not get enough on the shot as he went for the sweep. Proteas are close to win as Bavuma falls after a steady 37. Temba Bavuma c Shoriful Islam b Afif Hossain 37 (52b 3x4 1x6) SR: 71.15

SA recover after two quick wickets

South Africa are going along nicely in chase of the target of 195 after Bangladesh had those two quick breakthroughs. Kyle Verreyne and skipper Temba Bavuma notched a third-wicket fifty stand to keep Bangladesh at bay. South Africa are 150 for 2 after 25 overs.

Shakib removes De Kock after stormy fifty

Shakib Al Hasan removes Quinton De Kock after the left-hander smashed deliveries all around the park. It took a brilliant catch from Afif Hossain at deep mid-on to remove the South African opener. De Kock went for the big one and Afif flicks it up at the boundary line, then skips outside to get some footing, skips back inside the ropes and takes the catch. Bangladesh have made two quick breakthroughs after South Africa's flying start. Quinton de Kock c Afif Hossain b Shakib Al Hasan 62 (41b 9x4 2x6) SR: 151.21

Miraz breaks SA opening stand

Mehedi strikes for Bangladesh. Malan goes down for the sweep but the ball turns. There was enough turn on that one to beat Malan's planted front foot and clip his leg stump. Janneman Malan b Mehidy Hasan Miraz 26 (40b 4x4 0x6) SR: 65

De Kock is still going strong. Unbeaten on 58 from 38 deliveries. South Africa are 86 for 1 after 13 overs.

Bangladesh lose both reviews

Bangladesh have lost both their reviews now. Mehedi Hasan Miraz thought he struck Malan in front of stumps. He was certain about the leg-before review after umpire gave not out. Strangely enough, after Ultra-edge showed that there was no edge on the bat, Malan started walking back only for De Kock to call him back. Impact was outside off stump after the ball pitched outside off.

De Kock smashes fifty in 26 deliveries

Quinton de Kock is on fire, dealing in boundaries. He has put the bowlers to the sword with all three bowlers used so far in Taskin, Shoriful Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraz going at over 7 runs per over as the opening stand notched 50-run stand. South Africa are 69 for no loss in 8.3 overs as De Kock brought up his fifty in 26 deliveries. Eight fours and two sixes in that De Kock innings so far.

Proteas start well in chase of Tigers' 195

South Africa have begun their chase of 195 in style with Quinton De Kock already looking pretty menacing. South Africa are 30 for no loss after 5 overs. De Kock hit Taskin for two fours and a massive six to get his side up and running with the chase. There is some extra bounce on offer and De Kock's counterattack could just be a ploy to give the Bangladesh bowlers something to think about.
