Time for ICC to bring back neutral umpires: Shakib

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to bring back neutral umpires for international matches around the globe.

"I think it's time for Icc to back to neutral umpires as covid situation is ok in most cricket playing countries," tweeted Shakib during Bangladesh's ongoing first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead in Durban today.

Shakib is missing the South Africa Test series due to personal reasons.

The reversal of Kyle Verreynne's LBW off Mehedi Hasan Miraz in the second session on Day 4 of the game was the eighth time that the umpires' decision had to be overturned following a review in the game.

Also, there were many occasions when the umpires' decision stayed only owing to the umpire's call rule with most of the close calls going against the Tigers' favour.

Even South Africa skipper Dean Elgar, who rode on his luck multiple times during his 64-run knock, was given out after the Tigers opted for a review when South African umpire Marais Erasmus had turned down the initial appeal.

Shakib's tweet urging ICC to employ neutral umpires followed soon after the dismissal of the South African skipper.
