Taskin, Shoriful to return home after first Test
Bangladesh pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam will be returning home after their first Test against South Africa in Durban due to injuries, informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector Minhajul Abedin today.
Taskin, despite battling a shoulder injury, bowled on the fourth day of the ongoing Test and also bagged the crucial wicket of South Africa skipper Dean Elgar. The pacer had to walk off holding his sore right shoulder later on.
However, Taskin again returned to the field and also bowled a few overs. The injury, which the pacer has been carrying from South Africa's first innings, stopped him from bowling on the third evening and for most of the fourth morning.
"Taskin and Shoriful are coming home after this Test match," Minhajul told The Daily Star today.
"We will take a look at them when they are back. We are trying to find out how Taskin got injured. We have four fast bowlers remaining in the squad. So we are covered," he added.
Meanwhile, National Team physio Bayjedul Islam described the pacers' injury in an official media release.
" Taskin had complained of right shoulder pain and difficulty of movement during the second day's play in the first Test. He has received physiotherapy, supportive taping and painkillers for bowling in the second innings. His recovery is expected to take around three weeks," Bayjedul said.
"Shoriful felt pain on his left ankle during training on 29 March. An MRI confirmed a grade 1 ankle impingement syndrome with medial ligament injury. He has already started his rehab and is likely to resume training towards the end of this month," he added.

Taskin has been playing a crucial role for Bangladesh in all three formats. Hence his absence can make things difficult for the visitors in the second and final Test, starting from April 7 at Port Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, Shoriful was ruled out of the first Test due to multiple injuries, including an ankle niggle, as per head coach Russell Domingo.
