Cyclone Asani: 9.6mm of rainfall recorded in Patuakhali
The local met office in Patuakhali district recorded 9.6mm of rainfall in seven hours since 5am today.
Patuakhali Met Officer-in-charge Mohammad Masud Rana said that the rain may continue for the next five days.
Due to cyclone Asani, the met office asked all river ports including Payra to hoist distant warning signal number two, the official said.
Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain said a meeting was held yesterday afternoon (May 8, 2022) to deal with the approaching cyclone. All the upazila nirbahi officers were present at the meeting.
The control room will be opened by the district administration, if necessary, DC Kamal added.
Preparations are being made to tackle the cyclone, our Patuakhali correspondent reports.
The maximum continuous wind speed within 64km of the cyclone center is 89km per hour which is increasing up to 217km in the form of gusts, the official said.
The cyclone was centered at 6am today about 1085km south-southwest of Chattogram port, 1020km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 1020km south-southwest of Mongla port and 995km south-southwest of Payra port, said a bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
