The Bangladesh Embassy in Portugal hosted a T-10 cricket tournament on Tuesday in the country's capital Lisbon, where as many as 20 teams composed of Bangladeshi expatriates had participated.

After a one-sided final encounter of the competition titled 'Bangabandhu Cricket Tournament 2022', organised to commemorate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Lisbon Sixers emerged as champions as the runners-up Young Tigers could only post 100 runs in reply to Sixers' massive 219 and thus had suffered a 119-run defeat in the last hurdle, held at the Jamur Stadium Complex.

Sixers' Zakir Hossain was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round performance, having scored 75 runs while picking two wickets.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Portugal, Tariq Ahsan, was present as the chief guest to distribute prizes among the winners.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Tariq Ahsan informed that the embassy had organised the event to pay tribute to Father of the Nation of Bangladesh, so that his ideals leave a mark on the new generation.

Furthermore, Tariq Ahsan mentioned that such an occasion has brought immense joy among the expatriates, living thousand miles away from home. He hopes that the bond and harmony among the Bangladeshis in Portugal would reach greater heights following such events.

Local spectators aside, journalists, businessmen, leaders of various political parties and representatives of several Bangladeshi communities living in Portugal- were there to thoroughly savour the cricketing excitement that was offered on the day.
