Wounded Tigers off to recharge before Windies tour

On the back of a 1-0 defeat in the recently-concluded Test series against Sri Lanka and with a packed schedule ahead of Bangladesh, some of the members of the national team have taken a break ahead of their upcoming West Indies tour next month.

Shakib Al Hasan, however, was already off to Singapore on Friday night to check up on his health under the Bangladesh Cricket Board's supervision before the star all-rounder travels to the United States to spend time with his family. Shakib is expected to join the team directly in the Caribbeans on June 10.

Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal also left for Dubai right after the fifth day of the second Test in Mirpur to spend time with his family during the break.

Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored consecutive hundreds in the two-match Test series against the Lankans and became the first Bangladeshi batter to reach five thousand runs in Test cricket, has already taken a leave from the upcoming Windies tour series to perform Hajj.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, another player who was made to toil hard in the series, will travel to Thailand for his family's health check-up while wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan plans to enjoy the holiday in the United States and, like Shakib, intends to join the team directly in the West Indies.

The Tigers head coach Russell Domingo and pace-bowling coach Allan Donald also left for their homeland South Africa and will also join the team in the Caribbeans.

The Tigers are set to take part in two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is during the month-long tour.
